About the Training:

BASI Pilates’ Mat Pilates Teacher Training programme was designed with the aim of building a strong foundation to begin teaching Pilates with knowledge, ease and confidence. The immersive retreat style programme is the perfect vehicle for learning the Mat work, which Rael Isacowitz (BASI’s founder) regards as the “crown jewel” of Pilates. With this certification we hope to spread our belief in the Pilates Method and certify teachers that truly embody and understand the essence of Pilates. The mat certification can be used towards BASI’s Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training worldwide.
The training is laid out in a retreat style format and comprises two 6-day intensive retreats in Koh Samui, Thailand. Each week includes 5 (6) nights accommodation with breakfast, lunch & dinners, plenty of practice time, lots of personal coaching and a few surprises…
In the weeks in between the two courses, online course work and tuition with retreat facilitator Mareile Paley and your BASI teachers will help you to review and integrate the information and practice teaching. The training is designed in a way that each student will be able to qualify and take their practical and written exams by the end of the 2nd retreat.

Programme & Structure:

We offer an immersion programme that includes 2 weeklong intensive retreats with online course work in between. The retreat weeks will build up on each other and students must be present for both retreats.

The first retreat will build the foundation of your teacher training and includes basic anatomy studies, Pilates history and principles and the full Mat Pilates Beginners and Intermediate (Mat I & II) repertoire.

On the 2nd retreat, we will learn and study the advanced Pilates mat exercises (Mat III) and bring all the elements of teaching Pilates together. We will discuss the ‘business side’ of being a Pilates teacher, work on intelligent class design and incorporate plenty of practice teaching with valuable feedback to make you a confident teacher. A written exam will be taken at the end of the 1st retreat. You may chose to take your practical exam as well, receiving your teaching certification at the end of the 2nd retreat.

In the months in between the retreats, you will be given some homework consisting of observation hours, teaching practice and some written assignments. Your teacher will provide feedback and consultation time via skype and e-mail.

You will be responsible for your own travel arrangements from/to the retreat locations, but we will be happy to help arrange local transfers between the airport and retreat venues. October 6th and February 10th will be arrival days and we will meet for a welcome introduction and dinner by 6pm. October 11th and February 16th will be departure days with the retreat officially closing after breakfast. Please arrange your flights accordingly.

For Koh Samui fly to Samui International Airport (lots of flight connections from Bangkok, but also some international connections). Transfer to Absolute Sanctuary will be 10 minutes.

You will have to attend both retreats in order to be eligible for the Mat Pilates Teacher Certification. However, you may choose to complete the 6 required BASI Mat modules at different retreat locations and retreat combinations.

Who can attend this Teacher Training?

This intensive course is designed to cover Pilates ‘from scratch’. This means that you are not required to have an in-depth understanding of the Pilates Method, although we do encourage students to establish a regular Pilates practice prior to commencing the training. Our curriculum covers basic anatomy, but we do recommend further studies if you don’t come from a movement/fitness/medical background.
Personal trainers, wellness professionals, group fitness instructors and yoga teachers who wish to expand their professional experience, knowledge and qualifications are welcome to take this course. We will help you build a strong foundation in the Pilates Method and enable you to teach private or group mat Pilates classes to a variety of clients.

Congratulations on making that first step!

Every new student is always such an inspiration. We want to make your stay and training really worth your while, so the more we know, the better we can prepare. Simply fill out the form below and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
